Violence broke out between learners from various schools outside a secondary school in Lotus Park on Friday with about four learners taken into custody by members of Isipingo SAPS.

An Alpha Alarms armed officer responded to the scene to find total chaos outside the secondary school. Upon arrival, he was pointed in the direction of a learner believed to have had a knife in his possession.

The Alpha officer gave chase and noticed that the learner had a firearm not a knife in his possession. Whilst on the corner of Teal Place and Lotus Drive, a mob of female learners surrounded the fleeing male learner and blocked him from the officer’s view in a bid to help him escape.

The Alpha officer finally spotted the armed learner running down the embankment and jumping into a silver vehicle. The school administrator told the Alpha officer that the learner is known and has been involved in other problematic incidents at school.

Members of SAPS is known to have apprehended one learner armed with a knife. He had been hiding inside a taxi when he saw the armed Alpha officer and police.

It is also alleged that the fight broke out today as a result of a stabbing incident that took place in the vicinity of the school yesterday. It is alleged that a learner was stabbed by a fellow learner and a brother of the stabbed learner returned to deal with the perpetrators.

It is unknown what prompted the initial attack. Learners from various schools were present during the violent unrest.

The SAPS members are commended for their swift response as well as the Alpha armed officer.
