Stray bullet kills woman in KwaMashu shoot-out

A 28-year-old woman was killed in Durban when she was struck by a stray bullet during a shoot-out between police and suspected gang members, police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane ‎said that the incident happened in C-section of Durban’s KwaMashu township on Tuesday night.

“It is alleged that police were chasing a suspicious vehicle and the suspects started to shoot towards the members [of the police]. The members retaliated and the woman was shot.”

The woman was rushed to the KwaMashu Polyclinic.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said that the woman had succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the clinic.

Zwane said that one 38-year-old suspect had been arrested for attempted murder.

He said it was unclear whose bullet had struck the woman.
