Stolen vehicles recovered, 5 arrested, Paulpietersburg

An operation aimed at eradicating criminal activities in the Paulpietersburg policing precinct was conducted by local police officers together with the Ulundi Public Order Police and Vryheid K9 Unit. The operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects as well as the recovery of two stolen vehicles and a firearm.

On the morning of 22 August 2019, police tackled suspects who were traveling on the R33 highway. Two suspects aged 32 and 40 were arrested. Police seized a revolver with eight rounds of ammunition from the suspects and recovered a police bulletproof vest, police jacket, an empty cartridge as well as a tonfa from the vehicle. Police discovered that the vehicle was also stolen. All items were seized including the vehicle.

The suspects were taken into custody and charged for being in possession of suspected stolen property. The 32 year old was also charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. An investigation to determine if the suspects can be linked to other pending cases is continuing. The suspects will appear in the Paulpietersburg Magistrates Court on Monday, 26 August 2019.

Police proceeded to the CBD where they spotted a vehicle with three occupants. When an investigation was conducted, it was discovered that the vehicle was stolen from the Mpumalanga province in April this year. Three suspects aged between 25 and 38 were arrested and charged for being in possession of suspected stolen property. They are appearing at the Paulpietersburg Magistrates Court.
