Lindani Zungu (28) and Sizwe Sitata (28) were arrested in KwaDabeka over the weekend for possession of unlicensed firearms. They appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate Court on Monday, 29 January 2019 and were remanded in custody until 4 February 2019.

Zungu was arrested on Saturday, 26 January 2018, by a Pinetown police officer who was driving in KwaDabeka and spotted a suspicious motor vehicle with an MP registration number. Upon circulating the vehicle, the officer discovered that it was stolen in Nongoma in December 2018. Zungu was stopped, searched and was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition.

The second suspect, Sitata was arrested on Sunday, 27 January 2019, in Claremont area during a crime intelligence operation. The police spotted a suspicious VW Golf and requested to search the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, police found the driver in possession of a homemade firearm and ammunition. The driver was immediately arrested.

The police also found 9mm pistol with 7 live rounds of ammunition abandoned at KK hostel.
