On 9 March 2020, the Zululand Stock Theft Task Team embarked on an operation following possible leads with regards to stock stolen from a farm in Gluckstadt.

The team proceeded to the Village area near Swart Mfolozi in Gluckstadt where the suspected stolen livestock were hidden in the bushes. The team recovered four Bonsmara cattle tied up with their four calves next to them. Whilst the police officers were herding the cattle, an additional two stolen cattle were also recovered in the same vicinity.

The stolen livestock was positively identified and handed over to the lawful owner. The cattle were stolen last month at a farm in Gluckstadt. Operations aimed at fighting livestock theft in the province are on-going.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula praised the stock theft team for the recovery of the stolen livestock. “We are also appealing to livestock owners to make sure that they brand their livestock for easy identification. The issue of stray animals on public road remains a concern as it leads to serious accidents and even loss of life. We are appealing to livestock owners to take care of their livestock and not allow them to stray onto our roads,” he said.
