A multi-disciplinary operation was conducted in the Vryheid policing precinct as part of the Safer Festive Season Operations. The operation commenced on Friday 6 December 2019, and ended on the night of 9 December 2019. The focus of the operation was to curb stock theft in the Vryheid and surrounding areas. During the operation a total of 21 calves were found hidden at a farm in the area.

Two suspects aged 37 and 39 were placed under arrest for stock theft. All the stolen stock were positively identified by the lawful owners. The arrested suspects appeared in the Vryheid Magistrates Court. They were remanded in custody until 6 January 2020.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the team for the recovery of the stolen stock.

“These operations aimed at curbing stock theft in the province will continue throughout the festive season. We are appealing to communities to come forward with information that will lead to the arrest of stock thieves. Anyone with information on criminal activities is encouraged to make use of the MySAPS App by downloading the App on any iPhone or Android device,” he said.
