Two suspects aged 22 and 34 appeared before the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 March 2021 for perjury and defeating the ends of justice.
Their arrest came after the suspects staged a case of kidnapping and armed robbery. The complainant alleged that on 12 March 2021 she was kidnapped by two suspects. At gunpoint, she was tied up, blindfolded and forced into the suspect’s vehicle. They took her to KwaDabeka hostel where she was found by her boyfriend after the suspects demanded a ransom for the victim to be released.
The boyfriend surrendered his vehicle keys whilst he was still arranging to get the money.
Charges of kidnapping and robbery were opened for investigation. A thorough investigation was conducted and revealed that the case was false and the couple was placed under arrest.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani praised the team for solving the case. “We would like to warn members of the community to refrain from opening false cases. We will make sure that all those involved are brought to book,” he said.
