On 16 September 2021, Detectives from the Ugu District Operational Command Centre acted on information about four armed men that were travelling in a vehicle from the North towards the South Coast.

The vehicle was spotted passing Scottburgh at a high speed. Police officials from the Umzinto and Port Shepstone K9 Unit were activated and joined the chase. A chase ensued and the suspects’ vehicle was pulled over near the Umtentweni Toll Plaza.

A search was conducted which resulted in the recovery of two firearms and 32 rounds of ammunition.

All four suspects, aged between 25 and 43 years, were placed under arrest for being in possession of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. The initial investigation conducted by police revealed that one of the suspects aged 35 is wanted for a double murder case which was committed in the Eastern Cape during June 2021.
