A group of about 25 African National Congress supporters were singing and chanting outside the entrance to an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) rally in uMlazi, Durban, where EFF leader Julius Malema is scheduled to speak on Sunday afternoon.
Dressed in ANC colours, the group chanted in isiZulu “Malema must sit properly because his small p*n*s is showing”.
A strong police presence was evident, with 17 officers positioned immediately inside the venue but not at the gathering area around the stage.
Close on 1000 EFF supporters had gathered on the Mangosuthu University of Technology sport field by 2.30pm, about an hour before Malema was set to speak.
Besides EFF supporters, among those present were people who described themselves as “curious onlookers”, including a small group of nurses still clad in their uniforms.
