On the night of 16 July 2020, police officers from Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation Unit and Crime Intelligence as well bank investigators conducted a multi-disciplinary operation in the KwaDabeka policing precinct.

Police proceeded to 32nd Avenue in Clermont where they pounced on two men. The police officers searched the house and recovered items suspected to be used during fraudulent activities. A laptop, card writer, speed point machine, skimming device, 5 cellphones, sim cards, 11 SASSA cards, 18 bankcards and a diary were recovered.

The diary contained people’s names, account numbers, ID numbers and pin codes. It was further discovered that the speed point machine was stolen from a business premises in Cato Ridge.

The suspects aged 25 and 26 were immediately arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. They are expected to appear at the Pinetown Magistrates Court today.

They will also be profiled to determine if they are linked to pending fraud cases.
