KwaZulu Private Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle collision last night, Wednesday, 19 December 2025, at approximately 20:30, in the residential area of Edendale, Pietermaritzburg. The incident occurred near the landmark of Buthokuhle Pre Primary School.
The collision involved a light motor vehicle that, according to initial reports, experienced a suspected brake failure, leading to the driver losing control on the road. The vehicle subsequently veered off the road, smashing directly into a private residential property.
Despite the severe structural damage inflicted upon the home by the impactful collision, a sheer stroke of luck averted a community tragedy: the house was vacant at the time of the crash. Paramedics on the scene conducted a comprehensive assessment of the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, who was miraculously found to have sustained no injuries. The driver was assessed and declined transportation to the hospital.
Due to the location of the vehicle and the significant recovery operation required to safely remove it from the dwelling, traffic flow in the immediate vicinity was affected for a sustained period. Authorities worked diligently to divert traffic and ensure the safety of the public and responders.
This near-miss highlights the critical importance of regular vehicle maintenance and roadworthiness, particularly in areas with dense residential proximity to public roads. KwaZulu Private Ambulance commends the swift and coordinated efforts of all responding emergency personnel.
