At approximately 23:10 Reaction Unit South Africa received several calls from a member of public reporting a shootout in progress outside a fast food outlet in Mt. Edgecombe.

Several Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival it was established that the occupants of a grey BMW attempted to hijack an Isuzu bakkie which was stationary at the intersection.

The driver was assaulted with the butt of a firearm. He managed to drive off however the suspects fired approximately 15 shots in an attempt to stop him.

Several patrons at 2 fast food outlets had to take cover during the shooting.

The suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction. No one was injured during the shooting.
