Shop manager assaulted with brick over airtime dispute

Blue Security armed response officers arrested two suspects in the South of Durban at the weekend.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a suspect assaulted the manager of a shop in Bayhead Road during a dispute over airtime at around 8.30am on Saturday.

“The suspect, a truck driver, picked up a brick and assaulted the manager, hitting him on his arm. He fled the scene but was not quick enough to escape our officer who tracked him down and arrested him,” Mathios said.

“The suspect was handed over to Brighton Beach SAPS officers who attended the scene. Fortunately, the manager did not require any medical attention.”

Mathios said in the second incident in Umhlatuzana, a suspect gained entry onto a property in 24th Avenue and was in the process of stealing goods from the premises when an officer responded to the scene. “The officer managed to arrest the suspect and handed him over to Bayview police officers at the scene of the crime,” Mathios said.
