It is alleged that on 12 september 2018, at 20:45, the Provincial Vehicle Task Team, K9 Unit and tracking company followed up information with regards to a vehicle that was hijacked in Glenwood. The team spotted the vehicle at V Section along Sandakahle Drive in Umlazi.

Police intercepted the vehicle and the suspects opened fire at police officers. Two suspects alighted from the vehicle and fled on foot. Investigations were conducted and a 26 year old suspect was arrested whilst he was being conveyed to hospital.

It is alleged that he sustained a gunshot wound during the shoot out. Two more suspects aged 21 and 26 who were conveying the injured suspect were also placed under arrest.

Their arrest follows an incident which occurred last night, 12 September 2018, at 20:25, where a man parked outside his house in Glenwood when he was accosted by three armed suspects travelling in a Toyota Corolla. At gunpoint they robbed him of his Mercedes Benz and fled the scene in both vehicles.

In another incident this morning at 06:50, a woman went to Silverwillow Road in Mayville to drop off her friend when they were accosted by three armed suspects. At gunpoint they were forced into the vehicle and the suspects fled with them towards Umlazi.

Police officers from the Trio Crimes Task Team, K9 Unit, Durban Tactical Response Team and other units swiftly responded to the complaint. The hijacked vehicle, a white Range Rover, was stopped at B Section in Umlazi. Two suspects managed to flee from the scene on foot however a 26 year old suspect was arrested.

The women were not injured. The arrested suspects will appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court soon.
