Ngwelezane SAPS arrested a 35 year old suspect for attempted murder after it is alleged that on 14 January 2018, a local Inkosi held a traditional ceremony for his daughter and later that day at about 18:00, the troops started a stick fighting game during which a security guard from another traditional council produced a hand gun and fired randomly towards the troops.

The bullets wounded a 62 year old man and he sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

He was rushed to hospital for medical attention. The suspect was arrested and charged for attempted murder. He will appear in the Ngwelezane Magistrates’ Court on 16 January 2018.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa commended police for the arrest. “We hope that the attempted murder suspect will be successfully prosecuted for ruining the local peaceful event by shooting at the innocent people. Criminals must be apprehended and handed over to the police immediately,” he said.
