A Sherwood family survived a harrowing home invasion unharmed last night.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the family was sitting outside on the patio in the pool area of their home in Jan Smuts Highway when a gang of five armed robbers stormed the property. The incident occurred at around 8.10pm.

“The gang suddenly emerged from the back of the house and forced the family inside where they ransacked the house. They demanded keys for the resident’s two vehicles and loaded them up with household goods including two computers, a DVD player, tablets, cellphones, a television and a fridge. They also ripped a CCTV camera off the wall and took it with them. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said.

Mathios said both vehicles were later recovered in Cato Manor.

Sydenham SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

In a separate incident last week, a Sherwood man was hijacked while standing outside his Adams Crescent home having a conversation with his friend.
