Several injured in Truck and Taxi collision: Verulam – KwaZulu Natal

Approximately 13 people were injured following a collision involving a taxi and a truck on the north bound lane of the R102 between the Verulam and Canelands intersection on December 12, 2016.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the scene after receiving several calls from the public requesting assistance for the injured. Upon arrival a Nissan Diesel tip truck was found lying on its side in the centre median separating the north & south bound lane. A Toyota Hiace taxi was found across the road.

Two woman were seriously injured and the jaws of life had to be used to free them from the taxi. Paramedics from several ambulance services responded to the collision where the injured were stabilised before being transported to various hospitals. A specialized medical helicopter landed at the scene and airlifted a critically injured woman to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital. The woman has succumb to her injuries and passed away in hospital.

It is alleged that the truck was travelling in the direction of Canelands when the taxi suddenly turned off the R102 into Inanda Road resulting in the collision.
