It is alleged that on 14 August 2018 at 08:30, the complainant was at his business premises at Efaye area, Harburg when he was approached by seven unidentified suspects. At gunpoint, the suspects tied the victim with cable ties and ransacked the business premises.

They took cigarettes, airtime vouchers, airtime machine, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene in their getaway Nissan bakkie. Harburg police officers swiftly responded to the scene and spotted the suspects’ vehicle.

The members arrested four suspects who were found inside the vehicle and other three managed to flee to the nearby bushes. The team gave chase and further three suspects were arrested in the nearby bushes. Three unlicensed 9mm pistols with 40 rounds of ammunition were confiscated from the suspects.

The vehicle that was used in the commission of crime was also confiscated for further investigation. All the property stolen during the robbery was recovered from the suspects. They are expected to appear tomorrow, 16 August 2018 in the New Hanover Magistrates’ Court on charges of robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

In another case, yesterday evening, 14 August 2018, an intelligence driven operation was held in the Weenen area by the Ladysmith K9 Unit. The members went to a house in Ngodindi area, Weenen where they recovered two rifles and 42 rounds of ammunition.

A 58 year old woman was placed under arrest. She faces a charge of being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition. The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing. She is appearing today in the Weenen Magistrates’ Court.
