In the early hours of 19 October 2017, the members of the Public Order Police conducted an operation at Mambulu area, Kranskop.

The members went to a homestead where a suspect was found in possession of a three pistols, a rifle and four live rounds of ammunition.

The members proceeded to another homestead in the same area where two brothers were arrested after they were found in possession of three rifles and three live rounds of ammunition.

All three suspects aged between 31 and 43 were charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspects will also be profiled in order to establish if they are linked to robberies and other cases committed in Kranskop and surrounding areas. The confiscated firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing. The arrested suspects will appear in the Kranskop Magistrates’ Court.

“The reduction of illegal firearms contributes to the reduction of crime in the province. The number of firearms recovered shows that the members are committed in rooting out the criminals possessing unlicensed firearms,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
