Senior Sea View woman assaulted during home invasion

A senior woman was assaulted during a home invasion by an armed gang on Monday morning in Seaview, Durban.

“Blue Security reacted swiftly on Monday at about 9.30am when they received an alert of suspects invading a home in Seaview,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.

Three senior residents had been sitting on their verandah when they saw three men enter the property. The suspects had gained entry by derailing the driveway gate. ” Two of the men produced firearms and ordered the residents indoors at gunpoint,” Mathios said. The suspects then searched the home before fleeing with a flatscreen TV and jewellery.

“One of the residents, a woman in her late seventies, was assaulted. Luckily, however, no shots were fired nor serious injuries sustained,” Mathios added. An ambulance and Rescue Care paramedics were in attendance and crisis counselling was provided to the shocked residents. Members of Bellair SAPS attended the crime scene and a case opened.

“With the rate of crime being a constant threat these days, it is more important than ever to secure one’s home against criminals and for vulnerable residents to keep a panic button at hand, at all times, in order to summon help immediately,” Mathios said.
