Senior Cowies Hill Park resident assaulted with firearm during robbery

A senior resident was assaulted and robbed of his vehicle in Balfour Road in Cowies Hill Park on 14 December 2018.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the suspects are believed to have followed the resident home from a local shopping centre before holding him up at gunpoint in his garage just after he arrived home. The incident occurred at around 1.15pm.

“Four suspects, who were travelling in a white VW Polo are believed to have followed the resident home from the shops. The resident drove into his property and pressed his remote to close the driveway gates behind him. He parked his car inside the garage and then went into the kitchen where within seconds, he noticed two suspects walking towards him from the front door area. The suspects held him up at gunpoint and demanded his car keys,” Mathios said.

“They assaulted him with the butt of a firearm, injuring him on his head. The suspects grabbed the victim’s alarm system panic remote button and keys before making their way to the garage where they jumped into his car and fled the scene. ER24 paramedics treated the victim at the scene of the crime before transporting him to hospital,” Mathios said.

Mathios added that the resident reported that he was certain that he had closed the driveway gate behind him. “There were no signs of forced entry and it is not clear at this stage whether the suspects jumped over the driveway gate to gain entry into the property,” Mathios said.

Mathios said the vehicle was later recovered in Lamontville. Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
