Self determination a political force as Zulu king takes a stand

The question of self determination hibernated for almost 25 years since 1994 when the “Rainbow Nation” and multiculturalism became the political flavour of the moment. With the formation of Front National in 2014 it starting surfacing again.

And yesterday, at the imbizo of the Zulu traditional leaders, king Goodwill Zwelithini blatantly stated that if the ANC carries on with the plan to expropriate land, and implements Kgalema Motlanthe’s idea to also expropriate the Ingonyama Trust (which is the traditional Zulu land), the king would simply close the borders of Kwazulu and declare the Zulu nation independent from South Africa.

In that lies the very essence of self determination as proposed by Front National.

But we have to listen very carefully to what the King said. He did not propose GEOGRAPHICAL self determination as such, but NATIONALIST self determination. Self determination for ALL the Zulu people who will have their own home land. The King does not say: We take a portion of the current South Africa and walk away with it. He says: The Zulu people will walk away with what is theirs.

And that is what it is about. These groups and organisations proposing secession for a geographical area and the multiculturalist society living in that area, are chasing after the wind. It will basically mean that all peoples in the area are independent, but their parents and next of kin living outside of the area will have another homeland. Such an argument is senseless and without foundation. For FN proposes exactly what the King also says: A nation entitled to a portion of the land which can become their homeland and be a homeland for any Afrikaner, English or Afrikaans speaking, living anywhere in the world. THAT is true self determination.

King Zwelithini has our full support in this plan, for he announced the arrival of a new tide in politics yesterday and underlined two very important aspects, both of which are 100% in line with the tide of politics in the rest of the world. The King announced the right of a nation to govern themselves and the King tolled the bell of multiculturalism. In essence he said: I am Zulu first and then South African. Exactly as FN says: We are Afrikaner first and then South African.

And if (or rather WHEN) King Zwelethini calls upon the Zulu to walk away from the South African state of multiculturalist unity, as surely as the sun rises in the east, the Afrikaner will do so also. In that determination, we are with the King and his people all the way.
