A private security vehicle came under heavy gunfire during an attempted home invasion in the Somerset Park area, Umhlanga, on the morning of Tuesday, 16 September 2025.
KZNVIP, together with multiple emergency services, responded swiftly to the scene.
Reports indicate that the security officer, while on routine patrol, disturbed a group of suspects believed to be preparing for a home invasion in the area.
During the pursuit, suspects in a white vehicle with registration unconfirmed opened fire on the security officer. A second vehicle, carrying additional suspects, also engaged and fired multiple shots at the security vehicle.
Fortunately, the security officer managed to escape unharmed. The suspects managed to evade arrest. SAPS has since cordoned off Somerset Drive while investigations are underway.
