A member of Reaction Unit South Africa is fighting for his life at a hospital in Umhlanga after he was stabbed in the head while trying to arrest a robbery suspect at a local supermarket on Thursday night.
44 year old Jagatheesan Mudaly was stabbed by a suspect while the officer was trying to handcuff him. The suspect resisted arrest and during the scuffle, drew a long screwdriver and stabbed the officer in his forehead. The suspect then fled the scene.
The Officer is currently in an intensive care unit and has since lost his memory. He will undergo an emergency operation this morning after an x-ray confirmed that his injuries were extensive.
7 Reaction Officers were attacked in the past month while performing their duties and effecting arrests. One officer was shot and 4 others received death threats from suspects during the same period.
