Security Guard Shoots Woman - Durban

A female believed to be in her late twenties has been left fighting for her life after an alleged domestic issue turned violent on Friday afternoon.

Marshall Security were alerted to a shooting in Cypress Road at approximately 15:30. Reports from the scene suggest that a private security guard who was guarding an industrial site in the area allegedly had a domestic dispute with the young female. Things took a turn for the worse and the guard produced a private small calibre fire arm, shooting the female in the chest.

Fearing for her life the female fled on foot down the road before collapsing on the corner of Cypress Drive and Glen Anil Street. The suspect fled in an unknown direction.

Marshall Security found the female lying on the pavement in a critical condition. A call was made for the assistance of Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioners who worked fervently for over 40 minutes to stabilize the female using several advanced life support intervention methods.

A further call was made for the assistance of the Air Mercy 5 Red Cross Helicopter to assist in airlifting the female to Chief Albert Luthuli Central Hospital for the immediate definitive care she required.

She remains in a critical but stable condition at hospital.

The suspect remains at large. The scene was handed over to the Greenwood Park South African Police Services for further investigation and processing.

We would like to express our gratitude to Netcare 911 for their outstanding levels of professionalism and dedication to assisting those in their time of need.
