The SA Police Service spent R6,7m on tests of a light caliber bulletproof jacket.

An R33 million order was placed with an Indian manufacturer and, according to allegations, a middleman in Durban received a good part of the R33 million for the conclusion of the contract.

Dr. Johan Burger of the Institute of Security Studies reported that the contract was concluded without tenders being requested and the price was described as “ridiculous.” It is not sure whether the supplier has ties with a well-known Indian family.
