Robbery suspect killed in shootout, 3 arrested, Paulpietersburg

On 13 November 2019, at 08:30, three suspects have been taken into police custody following a shootout with police in Paulpietersburg. Police officers in Paulpietersburg received an intelligence information about suspects driving on the Main Road who were involved in a robbery incident in the Mpumalanga province.

A vehicle with four occupants fitting the description was spotted. When police attempted to stop it, the vehicle occupants fired multiple gunshots at the police, damaging police vehicles. Police retaliated, fatally wounding one of the males and three of them were arrested. Two firearms were recovered from the suspects.

Suspects will be charged for attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm. They will appear in the Paulpietersburg Magistrates Court. The suspects’ vehicle was seized for further investigation.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi praised the police for not deterring from their duties when they were attacked whilst conducting their duties. “We will continue to fight crime and put criminals behind bars,” he said.
