A 25 year old woman who is four months pregnant was repeatedly stabbed during an attempted robbery on Todd Street in Verulam on Monday 5 November 2018.

At approximately 19:40 a member of Reaction Unit South Africa was on patrol in the area when he noticed a woman struggling with a man. Upon noticing the approaching Response Vehicle the suspect fled down the side of a bridge and along a dense bush.

The Reaction Officer abandoned his vehicle and pursued the suspect on foot however he managed to evade arrest.

It was established that the victim had left her place of employment and was on her way home to Waterloo in Verulam when she was accosted by a lone suspect who grabbed her hand bag. The victim wrestled the suspect for the handbag and was stabbed at least six times with a screwdriver.

The suspect fled without taking her hand bag after he noticed the RUSA vehicle approaching.
