Robber shoots himself in Phoenix

A suspect is believed to be seriously injured after he shot himself during an armed robbery in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal.

At approximately 09:53 on 13 March members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to a business complex after members of the public reported an armed robbery in progress. Upon arrival it was established that 4 armed suspects held up a security officer from a private cash-in-transit company and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash.

As the suspects fled through a passage towards their getaway vehicle one them fired a shot into the ground to disperse onlookers. The bullet ricochet and struck the suspect who had fired the shot. The injured man managed to get into the awaiting Toyota Corolla with his accomplices before they fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The suspect is believed to be seriously injured due to the amount of blood he had lost from the point of the shooting to were the getaway vehicle had been parked.
