Richmond shop owner shot dead

A shop owner was killed in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands town of Richmond when his shop was held up by armed robbers on Friday, police said.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said that the man’s son was shot in the arm.

“The suspects took property from the business before they fled the scene. Later police arrested two suspects who were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm. They will be charged for business robbery, murder, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm,” he said.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said that when paramedics arrived at the scene, the shop owner had already succumbed to his wounds. He had been shot in the neck.

Zwane said said he was only aware that one other person was injured, however paramedics reported that a second person was also injured.

That second person according to Meiring was in a critical condition and had been taken to hospital.
