Response Officer Narrowly Escapes Multiple Gunshots

A Blue Security reaction officer narrowly escaped injury during a shootout on Tuesday afternoon when patrolling through a Pinetown Industrial Park.

“The reaction officer had been conducting a patrol around the complex just before 1pm when he noticed two suspects forcing open a roller shutter door at the back of the premises,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.

“On spotting the officer one of the two suspects pulled out a firearm and fired a shot at him,” Mathios said. “When the officer ran around the other side of the building towards the men the suspect shot at him again. The officer returned fire shooting multiple warning shots into the ground,” Mathios said. “The suspects then fled on foot in the direction of a nearby informal settlement. No-one was injured in the incident, which was duly reported to Pinetown SAPS,” Mathios said.

In an unrelated incident, also on Tuesday afternoon, two suspects held up employees at a business premises on the Berea. “Two unknown men arrived on the property at about 2.30pm and held up those present at gunpoint,” Mathios said. “The suspects stole a cellphone, an undisclosed amount of cash and various items of clothing before fleeing the premises,” Mathios said. “No injuries were sustained and Berea SAPS attended the scene,” Mathios said.
