Strong team work by Blue Security armed response officers and the community led to the arrest of an alleged credit card thief, who tried to buy a meal with the spoils of a remote jamming incident in Mariannhill at the weekend.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said staff at a takeaway outlet in Underwood Road in Sarnia had alerted an armed response officer to the presence of a suspect who had attempted to buy lunch using a stolen credit card. The incident occurred at around 1.30pm on Saturday.
“Our officer responded to the scene where staff gave him a description of the suspect, who was still standing outside the store waiting for his meal. The officer approached the suspect and took him back into the store where the manager identified him,” Mathios said.
Mathios said it emerged when the owner of the bank card was contacted, that suspects had remote jammed her vehicle in Mariannhill and stolen a handbag from which the credit card had been taken. “The suspect was arrested and handed over to the police at the Mariannhill police station,” Mathios said.
In other separate incidents in Pinetown, two suspects were arrested by vigilant reaction officers and community members this past Saturday.
