Two suspects aged between 59 and 64 are expected to appear in the Mahlabathini Magistrate’s Court on 15 January 2021 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

On 13 January 2021 at about 10:00, Golela Deployment Task Team together with Ulundi Municipality Crime Prevention police were conducting crime intelligence operation at Okhukho in the Mahlabathini area when they received information about men in possession of unlicensed firearms.

The police proceeded to the men’s homestead and requested permission to search the premises, upon searching they recovered an rifle and ten ammunition.

The second suspect (59) who was planning to go hunting at game reserve in the area was found in possession of a 308 hunting rifle and five ammunition and was arrested. Both suspects were charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, they were detained at Mahlabathini police station.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the unlicensed firearm.
