Two suspects are appearing in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court for charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

On 3 June 2021, at 14:45, the Stabilisation Unit police officers deployed at Plessislaer area conducted an operation at Imbali and Dambuza areas.

The team went to Dambuza area near two taps where they spotted a suspicious vehicle with male occupants. The vehicle was stopped and upon searching the vehicle, one of the occupants was found in possession of a firearm with two rounds of ammunition. He was placed under arrest for possession of illegal firearm and ammunition.

The operation continued until late at Imbali. They were patrolling the Imbali Unit 2 area when they noticed a male that was walking on the road. He was approached and was searched. A 19-year-old suspect was placed under arrest after he was found in possession of unlicensed firearm with an ammunition.

Both firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing.
