A drunk driver was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa after he knocked into Reaction Officer on Fairview Drive, Brindhaven, Verulam during the early parts of Sunday morning.
At approximately 00:23 Reaction Officer Wesley Thompson was on patrol on Fairview Drive when the driver of a Kia Sorento veered into his lane and knocked him off his motorbike. The injured Officer circulated the number plate of the vehicle which failed to stop on scene.
Reaction Officers noticed the Kia Sorento travelling at high speed towards Oaklands. Officers managed to cut the vehicle off and bring it to a stop. The driver, who is a resident of Redcliffe was under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest and handed over to Police for further investigation.
Officer Thompson was treated for his injuries on scene before being transported to Umhlanga Hospital. He has suffered multiple fractures to his arm. He is scheduled to have surgery to his arm during the course of today.
