A Blue Security armed response officer arrested a suspect during an attempted truck hijacking in Umbilo in the early hours of 24 April 2018.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a truck driver who was driving from Johannesburg to Durban was hijacked by passengers who he had picked up along the way.
“The driver had offered a lift to two people near Estcort but when he approached Durban one of the passengers pulled out a firearm and hijacked the truck driver,” Mathios said. “A Blue Security armed response officer who was patrolling in Umbilo spotted the hijacking in progress and called for back up to the scene,” Mathios said.
“When back up officers arrived the hijackers fled in different directions but the officer managed to arrest one of the hijackers,” Mathios said.
Mathios said the suspects had contacted their local accomplices to fetch the truck, but the officer and officer and the police had managed to intervene in time.
The suspect was handed over to the Umbilo SAPS.
