The the Mtunzini Regional Court sentences a 32-year-old man to 20 years imprison for the rape of an 11-year-old girl, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said Halala Mkhwanazi, 32, was sentenced on Wednesday.
“His sentence came after the magistrate heard how he raped an 11-year-old in April 2012. It is alleged that the victim was playing with other children at Mangezi area, Mtunzini, when Mkhwanazi grabbed the victim, chased her friends and took her to his house where she was raped,” Gwala said in a statement.
“The victim reported the matter to her teacher who alerted the social workers.”
Mkhwanazi was arrested in May 2012. He made several appearances in court until his sentence.
