On 15 June 2018, Madadeni High Court convicted and sentenced Sikhumbuzo Mathe (38) to effective 40 years’ imprisonment for five counts of rape that he committed at Dundee, Mondlo, Vryheid and Ekuvukeni areas between October 2014 and November 2016.

Mathe accosted teenagers between 14 and 16 years of age whilst alone in the afternoons and rape them.

He would threaten, assault and rape them. Cases of rape were opened and investigated by Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit detectives from Dundee, Vryheid and Ladysmith.

They did a good job in ensuring that they send well prepared dockets to court for successful prosecution. The accused was sentenced to a total of 60 years, 10 years for each count in four rapes and 20 years for the fifth count. Each 10 years will run concurrently and 20 years will not run concurrently with the other sentence.
