Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit conducted a thorough investigation which led to a successful prosecution of Nkosinathi Nqobile Myeni, 30, for rape he committed at Esikhaleni and KwaDlangezwa.

In the evening of February 2015, Myeni raped a 38-year-old woman whilst he pretended to be accompanying her to her home in KwaDlangezwa as it was dark. Instead, he forcefully raped her and fled with her cellphone.

The victim reported the incident to Mtunzini police who swiftly conducted a preliminary investigation and Empangeni FCS Unit took over the investigation which led to an immediate arrest of Myeni who was also linked through DNA to a case of rape that was opened at Esikhaleni police station in 2014.

Myeni had raped a then 17-year-old female near the cemetery, threatening her with a knife in October 2014. The accused was taken to Empangeni Regional Court to stand trial where he was sentenced and convicted on 24 July 2017 for two cases of rape.

He was sentenced to 15 years for each count of rape and both sentences will run concurrently.
