On Monday, 16 July 2018, Ixopo Regional Court sentenced Dish Zamokuhle Memela (32) to 18 years imprisonment for the rape of a 72 year old woman.
It is alleged that on 7 May 2018, at 00:30, the victim was at her residence at KwaMakhobongwane area in Bulwer when she was awoken by a noise in her house. When she got up she noticed that there was a man inside her house. The accused noticed the victim behind the door, he forcefully dragged and raped her.
He then fell asleep and the victim managed to get an axe and hacked him on the chest. The accused got up and ran away leaving his clothes and cell phone behind.
The case docket was registered at Bulwer Police Station and was allocated to Plessislaer Family Violence, Child Protection and family Violence Unit for further investigation.
The accused was arrested and appeared before court on several occasions until he was sentenced.
