Rapist gets 14 years sentence, Richmond

On 19 January 2018, Pietermaritzburg Regional Court convicted Morgan Mvikeli Philip Dlamini (23) to 14 years imprisonment for rape and kidnapping that took place at KwaMagoda, Richmond on 20 December 2015.

A 21 year old victim was coming from the tavern in the area with her friends. While she was on her way to her place of residence she was approached by the accused who grabbed her with her hair and pull out the knife from his pocket. He then forced her to go with him to his place of residence where he allegedly raped her at gunpoint.

A case of rape was opened at Richmond police station and the docket was transferred to Plessislaer Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for further investigation that led to the arrest of the accused.

The accused made several court appearances until he was convicted and sentenced.

“We will make sure that all those who abuse our women in our community instead protecting them are prosecuted. We urge the community to report any sexual abuse incidents to the police so that the culprits can be face the full might of law,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
