On 3 June 2020, 20-year-old Mfundiseni Fikisisa appeared in the Inkanyezi Regional Court and was convicted and sentenced to 28 years imprisonment for rape and attempted murder. It is alleged that between January 2017 and February 2018, the accused was living at a centre in Eshowe with the four victims aged between 8 and 14.

At night the accused who was 17-year-old would come to the victim’s room while they were sleeping and would call the girls to his room one at a time and rape them.

He would then give them cash of R3 to R5 and threaten them not to tell anyone. He continued with his evil act until one of the victims broke her silence and reported the ordeal to her foster mother.

Charges of rape were opened at the Eshowe police station and the docket was transferred to the Eshowe Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for further investigation. The accused was arrested and made several court appearances until he was sentenced.

He was sentenced to 24 years imprisonment for three counts of rape and four years for attempted rape.
