Mike Mabuyakhulu, former MEC for economic development, appeared with three other suspects in the Durban court on charges of money laundering, corruption and bribery.

He is the convener of the ANC’s provincial task team and tough Ramaphosa supporter.

He is accused of receiving money in 2012 after a Jazz festival had been canceled. That money was immediately divided into seven company accounts.

He was kicked out of the provincial government in 2016 when Sihle Zikalala acted against supporters of the Mchunu faction. During the December leadership election he worked with Mchunu to get Ramaphosa elected.

Mabuyakhulu has been released on R50 000 bail and the case will be heard on 6 April 2018.

So far, Ramaphosa has not commented on the matter.
