A multi disciplinary operation was carried out by various units at Swallowhaven Road, in Phoenix where they recovered drugs.

The team comprising of Provincial Organised Crime unit, National Intervention Unit and Durban Metro Police went to a house in Phoenix where a search was conducted.

The members recovered 80 rock cocaine pieces, 30 mandrax tablets, three bags with cocaine, ecstasy and dagga.

The total value of the recovered drugs is R80 000-00. Cash of R97 000-00, suspected to be the proceeds of drugs, was also confiscated.

The suspected owner of the house assaulted the police officer during the raid and resisted arrest. Three firearms were also confiscated from the suspect. The arrested suspects are appearing today in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court on charges of dealing in drugs, failing to safe guard firearms, assault common, crimen injuria and resisting arrest.

The team proceeded to the same scene on 28 January 2018, at 11:00, where they recovered more drugs to the value of R20 000-00. A 19 year old woman was arrested after she was found in possession of drugs which consist of heroin, rock cocaine and mandrax. She will appear in court next week facing charges of dealing in drugs.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa welcomed the arrest of eight suspects for dealing in drugs.

“This arrest proves that the dedicated team is determined to clamp down on drug dealers. Earlier this month, drugs were also recovered in the CBD worth more than R400 000-00. These operations will continue throughout the province to clean our streets from drug dealers,” he said.
