R64k of stolen copper cable recovered, man arrested, KZN

On 12 August 2018 at 10:40, an intelligence driven operation was conducted at Ogocini area near Matigulu Bridge at Nyoni policing area by Eshowe Crime Intelligence Unit members and Empangeni K9 Unit.

A homestead which fitted the same description given to them, was identified and searched. Copper cables weighing more than 1240 kilograms were found and a 37 year old suspect was arrested.

The suspect could not give satisfactory explanation about the copper cables. He was subsequently arrested and charged accordingly. We believe that the suspect might be involved in a number of copper cable thefts in the province.

The arrested suspect will appear in the Nyoni Magistrate’s Court today facing possession of property suspected to be stolen. The street value of the property is more than R64 000.
