R1,5 million worth of cocaine recovered, couple arrested, Durban

An operation was carried out on 5 March 2021, on Bhoola Road in Effingham Heights by the police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit.

The operation reaped excellent results when two suspects aged 40 and 47 were placed under arrest for possession of drugs. They are expected to appear before the Durban Magistrates court on Monday, 8 March 2021.

The team acted on information about drugs that were being manufactured and a sting operation was put in place. They proceeded to the said premises where two occupants were found in the process of manufacturing cocaine utilising cocaine powder with different additives.

Further search led to the recovery of 85 moons of rock cocaine, 3, 7 kg of cocaine powder, 15 spice bottles containing rock cocaine and five boxes of bicarbonate of soda at the same premises. Cash of R94 160-00 suspected to be the proceeds of drugs was seized by police. The value of the recovered drugs is R1,5 million.

“This arrest and recovery is evident that our operations are still on-going. We will make sure that we deal decisively with drug dealers in our province by placing them behind the bars. The use of drugs will not be tolerated in our province,” said the Acting Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani Gonya.
