R1.2 million found in counterfeit notes – Umlazi

Two suspects aged 18 and 24 will appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday to face fraud and possession of counterfeit notes to the value of R1,2 million.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bhekinkosi Langa on Monday said the arrest was made on Saturday by K9 Unit members from Umlazi area when they followed up information about fake notes at U section, Umlazi.

“The members pounced on the house and it was searched with the help of currency detection dog, Erica. They recovered R1,2 million from the house as well as from the vehicle that was parked in the premises. All notes were R100 fake notes with same serial numbers,” Langa said.

He also commended members of K9 unit for acting swiftly on information received and arrested the suspects.

“I also thanked the members of the community for supplying the police with positive information about suspects allegedly in possession of these fake notes.”
