Strong teamwork by Blue Security armed response officers resulted in the arrest of an alleged housebreaker who was on the run in Morningside yesterday afternoon.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said an armed response officer had spotted a suspect trying to flee through a passage window of a house in Hollander Crescent at around 12.30pm.
“The officer shouted out to the suspect to stop, but he ran to the back of the premises and threw stolen items – a kettle and an electric buffet server – over the fence. The officer immediately alerted his colleague, who was parked nearby in Sir Arthur Road, giving him a description of the suspect on the run,” Mathios said.
“The officer spotted the suspect and gave chase in his vehicle. He arrested him and took him back to the scene of the crime, where he was handed over to the Berea SAPS.”
Mathios said upon further investigation it was found that the suspect had gained entry onto the property over a back fence before forcing a passage window open and ransacking all the cupboards in the kitchen and dining room.
