Two prostitutes were arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa after they robbed a disabled man on Todd Street in the Verulam CBD.

The 44 year old victim arrived at RUSA Headquarters after he spotted two of the three suspects who had robbed him while he was walking on Todd Street on Friday morning 18 January 2019. He explained that he is a resident of Centurion in Johannesburg and is currently holidaying in Durban and living with family in Everest Heights, Verulam.

Whilst he was walking to a local supermarket to purchase eggs, three woman approached him. Two woman stood behind the victim who suffers from a disability to prevent him from running while their accomplice robbed him of his cash. The women then fled in an unknown direction. The victim registered a criminal case and requested assistance from RUSA to apprehend the suspects.

After providing a description of the woman Reaction Officers proceeded to Groom Street in the CBD where the women generally hang around. One of the suspects was located on the road side and after being approached by Officers she confirmed that her friend had gone into a bush along the railway line.

RUSA Members searched the bush and found the woman in a makeshift room. Both suspects were positively identified by the victim as the woman who had robbed him. The suspects were placed under arrest and are currently detained at the Verulam Police Station.

Reaction Officers have attended to several cases in recent months where prostitutes were involved in robberies. Generally they approach random men and demanded money from them for an alleged sexual encounter that they engaged in.

In nearly all the cases the incidents were fabricated in an attempt to extort money from their victims who in some cases paid money to avoid embarrassment.

In some cases the prostitutes would gang up on a man and rob him of his valuables.
