A private security officer was killed after he was shot multiple times and robbed of an air rifle on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD on Monday night 17 June 2019.

At approximately 20:04 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by a member of public reporting the shooting. Upon arrival it was established that the victim was fatally injured after he was shot once in the chest and three times in the arm.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate him without success.

A witness reported seeing an African male dressed in blue pants and a brown jacket approaching the deceased. Without warning the suspect drew a handgun and shot the 60 year old man multiple times before stealing his air rifle.

The suspect then fled along a pathway at the bottom of Wick Street leading either to the R102 or Coniston. Spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene.

Police are on scene and investigating further.
